US passport and visa applications through the State Department require a square photograph measuring 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), rendered at 600 × 600 pixels for digital submissions, with a maximum file size of 300 KB.

The photo must have a plain white or off-white background, show a front-facing view with a neutral expression and both eyes open. Glasses are not permitted since 2016. The head must measure between 1 and 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
